This store on West 29th Street is all that remains of the once-thriving Moon Belt District. Novelty Moon Belts became wildly popular in the early 1970s after the Apollo 11 moon landing. The belts contained “moon dust” (actually powdered Italian marble) said to enhance virility and ward off vermin.
